The first-generation Volvo S70 (P80 platform) launched in late 1996 as a comprehensive evolution of the 850 sedan. Featuring over 1,800 new or modified components, it received rounded exterior bodywork, redesigned bumpers, updated lighting graphics, and an all-new dashboard design. Produced as a 4-door sedan, it combined luxury with classic Volvo durability.
Engines included 5-cylinder petrol units in 2.0, 2.4, and 2.5-liter capacities (naturally aspirated, 2.5T, and T5), as well as an Audi-sourced 2.5 TDI. Bi-Fuel variants were offered. The high-performance S70 R featured 250 hp, a limited-slip differential, and optional AWD before production ended in 2000.
