The Volvo PV444 was revealed in Stockholm in 1944 and commenced serial manufacturing in 1947. It marked Volvo's first unibody car and its first mass-market compact model. Produced as a 2-door fastback sedan featuring a split windscreen, its design drew heavily from 1940s American styling.
Power originated from 1.4-liter B4B and B14A four-cylinder engines, succeeded by the 1.6-liter B16. Famed for structural strength, the PV444 pioneered Volvo's commercial entry into the United States market starting in 1955.
