First generation of the Volvo EX40 electric compact crossover SUV (formerly XC40 Recharge) built on the CMA platform from 2024.

In February 2024, Volvo streamlined its electric vehicle branding by renaming the fully electric XC40 Recharge to Volvo EX40. Built on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), it is produced as a 5-door crossover SUV. The name change aligned the crossover with Volvo's EX-series electric naming convention.

The EX40 features Single Motor RWD (238-252 hp) and Twin Motor AWD (408 hp) powertrains, alongside an optional Performance software package raising output to 442 hp. Driving range extends up to 570 km on the WLTP cycle.
