First generation of the Volvo C40 electric coupe crossover SUV built on the CMA platform, produced since 2021.

The Volvo C40 Recharge electric coupe SUV unveiled in March 2021 on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA). Produced as a 5-door crossover SUV with a sloping coupe roofline, it was Volvo's first model designed exclusively as an electric-only vehicle and the first to feature a completely leather-free interior.

Powertrain configurations include Single Motor RWD (238-252 hp) and Twin Motor AWD (408 hp) paired with battery packs ranging from 69 to 82 kWh. In 2024, the vehicle was renamed Volvo EC40 to align with Volvo's updated EV nomenclature standard.
