Volvo 940 I (940) gallery (1990–1998)
First generation of the Volvo 940 executive rear-wheel-drive model line (944/945) produced from 1990 to 1998.
The Volvo 940 series launched in late 1990 as an evolution of the 740 line, representing one of the last classic rear-wheel-drive Volvo families. Manufactured as a 4-door sedan (944) and 5-door wagon (945), it gained renown for exceptional mechanical longevity, ease of maintenance, refined front aerodynamics, and an integrated rear center armrest booster seat.
Engines featured B200 and B230 four-cylinder petrol engines (naturally aspirated, Low Pressure Turbo LPT, and High Pressure Turbo HPT up to 190 hp) alongside Volkswagen 2.4-liter D24TIC six-cylinder turbodiesels. Production ended in 1998 with an unmatched reputation for durability.
