Volvo 140 I (140) gallery (1966–1974)
First generation of the Volvo 140 executive series (142/144/145) produced from 1966 to 1974.
The Volvo 140 series launched in August 1966, establishing Volvo's signature boxy design direction led by Jan Wilsgaard. Produced in 2-door sedan (142), 4-door sedan (144), and 5-door wagon (145) variants, it was the first Volvo to incorporate four-wheel disc brakes and a triply redundant dual-circuit braking system.
Powertrains comprised 1.8-liter B18 and 2.0-liter B20 four-cylinder engines with twin carburetors or Bosch D-Jetronic electronic fuel injection (144 GL). Mid-cycle refreshes in 1971 and 1973 added new grilles, energy-absorbing bumpers, and safety steering columns prior to evolving into the 240 series in 1974.
