The Volkswagen Passat Lingyu (internal code Typ 9F) was an executive mid-size sedan launched in November 2005 by SAIC-Volkswagen for the Chinese market. It was developed on the long-wheelbase Passat B5 LWB platform (PL45+) featuring a longitudinal engine layout. Compared to the European Passat B5, the wheelbase was extended by 100 mm (to 2,803 mm), creating rear legroom comparable to luxury segment saloons. Exterior styling was heavily revised with a bold chrome shield grille and redesigned light clusters.
Engine offerings for the Passat Lingyu included a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder (115 hp), a 1.8-liter Turbo (150 hp, later upgraded to 163 hp), and a range-topping 2.8-liter V6 (190 hp). Gearboxes comprised 5-speed manuals and 5-speed Tiptronic automatics. In 2009, a major update debuted under the name Passat New Lingyu featuring revised LED lighting and modern interior materials. Production concluded in 2011 upon the launch of the Chinese-market Passat B7.
