Volkswagen Ameo I (Typ 63) gallery (2016–2020)

Subcompact sub-4-meter sedan Volkswagen Ameo engineered specifically for the Indian market, produced from 2016 to 2020.

The Volkswagen Ameo (internal code Typ 63) officially debuted in February 2016 ahead of the Auto Expo in New Delhi. Engineered specifically for the Indian market, the Ameo was tailored to fit India's sub-4-meter length taxation segment, measuring exactly 3,995 mm in length. Built on the PQ25 platform shared with the Polo Mk5 hatchback, designers integrated a notchback trunk offering 330 liters of capacity despite the truncated rear overhang. Production took place at Volkswagen's Chakan plant in Maharashtra.

The Ameo launched with a 1.2-liter MPI three-cylinder petrol engine (75 hp), replaced in 2018 by a 1.0-liter MPI unit (76 hp), alongside a potent 1.5-liter TDI four-cylinder turbo-diesel delivering 110 hp. The diesel engine could be paired with an optional 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission, a unique offering in the sub-4-meter segment. Standard and available equipment included cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, Climatronic automatic climate control, and MirrorLink touchscreen infotainment. Production ended in April 2020 following the implementation of Bharat Stage 6 emission standards.
