VAZ Lada XRAY I gallery (2015–2022)
A compact front-wheel-drive subcompact hatchback and crossover alternative based on the Renault-Nissan B0 platform.
The Lada XRAY is a subcompact crossover-styled hatchback developed through the close partnership between AvtoVAZ and the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Series assembly commenced at the Togliatti plant in December 2015, with commercial sales launching across Russia in early 2016. While based on the global B0 architecture shared with the second-generation Renault Sandero Stepway, the XRAY featured a distinct body shell sporting signature X-contoured side stampings, original exterior panels, integrated LED daytime running lamps, a widened track, and 195 mm of ground clearance. In late 2018, the manufacturer introduced the rugged XRAY Cross derivative, highlighted by protective perimeter plastic cladding, raised ground clearance of 215 mm, a bespoke front suspension setup with L-shaped wishbones and subframe adapted from the Vesta platform, four-wheel disc brakes, electric power steering, and the multi-mode Lada Ride Select terrain control rotary dial. The engine lineup encompassed naturally aspirated 1.6-liter petrol powerplants (the domestic VAZ-21129 rated at 106 hp and the Alliance H4M/HR16DE producing 110–113 hp) alongside a top-spec 1.8-liter VAZ-21179 engine generating 122 hp. Transmission choices included 5-speed manuals, a proprietary automated manual gearbox (AMT), and a continuously variable transmission (Jatco JF015E) mated exclusively to the 1.6-liter Alliance motor on the Cross model. Production of the model was formally concluded in 2022 due to component supply constraints and the restructuring of Alliance operations in the region.
