Vauxhall Cavalier III (Mark III) gallery (1988–1995)

The Vauxhall Cavalier Mark III was introduced in October 1988 alongside its European counterpart, the Opel Vectra A. Based on the newly developed GM2900 platform, it showcased groundbreaking aerodynamic efficiency with a drag coefficient of just 0.29. Body styles were focused on four-door saloons and five-door hatchbacks, dropping the estate variant. The car introduced substantial engineering improvements over the Mk II, including an optional permanent four-wheel-drive system with independent rear suspension. The engine range featured Family II petrol units in 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0-litre configurations (including the renowned 16-valve 'Redtop' C20XE), a smooth 2.5-litre 24-valve V6, as well as 1.7-litre GM diesel and Isuzu turbodiesel powerplants. The pinnacle of performance was the Cavalier Turbo 4x4, equipped with a 204 hp 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and a six-speed manual gearbox. Standard versions utilized five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions. A mid-life facelift in late 1992 introduced a fresh grille with an integrated badge, color-coded bumpers, improved side-impact protection, and standard airbags. In 1995, the Cavalier nameplate was retired after twenty years and replaced by the Vauxhall Vectra.
