The Vauxhall Ampera was marketed from 2012 to 2015 as the British-market sibling to the Opel Ampera and Chevrolet Volt, underpinned by GM's Delta II platform and powered by the innovative Voltec range-extended powertrain. Produced as a dedicated five-door aerodynamic hatchback with a four-seat cabin layout, the Ampera featured unique front-end styling highlighted by boomerang-shaped headlights. The drivetrain consisted of a 150 bhp primary electric drive motor paired with a 1.4-litre Ecotec four-cylinder petrol engine acting mainly as an on-board generator to supply electricity when the 16.0 kWh (later 16.5 kWh) lithium-ion battery depleted. It delivered an all-electric driving range of approximately 25 to 50 miles, with the combustion engine extending total range well beyond 300 miles.
