The first-generation Toyota GR Corolla debuted in March 2022 as a dedicated high-performance compact hot hatchback developed by the Gazoo Racing division. Built on a heavily reinforced version of the TNGA GA-C platform, the car features extensive structural bonding adhesives, additional spot welds, and underfloor bracing to maximize torsional rigidity. Offered exclusively as a five-door hatchback, it is distinguished by aggressively widened front and rear fenders, triple exhaust outlets, an aluminum hood and door skins, and a forged carbon-composite roof on select trims. Power comes from the 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-three G16E-GTS engine generating 300 hp (304 PS) and up to 400 Nm of torque in specialized iterations like the Morizo Edition. Power is delivered through a six-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT) with rev-matching, joined by an eight-speed Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT) introduced for the 2025 model year refresh. The advanced GR-Four permanent all-wheel-drive system incorporates front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials and variable front-to-rear torque distribution modes. Produced at the dedicated Motomachi GR Factory, the vehicle is primarily marketed in North America, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and select global regions.
