The first-generation Tata Aeris is a subcompact four-door sedan measuring 3,995 mm in length with a 2,450 mm wheelbase, developed as a major comprehensive evolution of the preceding Tigor. The vehicle utilizes a front-wheel-drive platform optimized for India's sub-four-meter tax rules and features an extensively reinforced passenger cell structure designed for superior rigidity. The exterior receives fresh front styling with sharper headlights, a closed gloss-black grille panel, and a full-width LED light strip across the rear boot lid. Cargo capacity is rated at 419 liters.

Under the hood, the Aeris offers 1.2-liter naturally aspirated three-cylinder engines. The base gasoline unit produces 85 hp, whereas the bi-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) variant delivers 75 hp. Both powertrains drive the front wheels exclusively and are paired with either a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automated manual gearbox operated via a rotary selector dial.

Compared to its predecessor, the interior has been heavily updated with a new dashboard architecture, sustainable recycled materials, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display, and a digital instrument cluster. Standard equipment includes six airbags across all grades, while higher trims gain ventilated front seats, dual wireless chargers, and a 360-degree camera setup.
