Subaru Solterra I (XEAM10/YEAM15) gallery (2022–present)
Subaru's first all-electric crossover Solterra debuted in 2021 co-developed on the e-Subaru Global Platform / e-TNGA architecture.
Unveiled in November 2021, the inaugural generation of the electric Subaru Solterra (XEAM10 FWD, YEAM15 AWD) launched for the 2023 model year as a co-development twin to the Toyota bZ4X. Constructed on the dedicated e-Subaru Global Platform / e-TNGA EV architecture, it houses a 71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack offering up to 460–530 km of range (WLTP). The engineering setup effectively combined the low center of gravity inherent to the horizontally-opposed engine layout with a rigid chassis frame, delivering precise handling and composure across dry pavement and slippery surfaces alike. Engine bay packaging ensured optimal front-to-rear axle weight distribution alongside efficient thermal cooling under sustained driving loads.
All-Wheel Drive configurations utilize dual electric motors generating a combined 218 hp (160 kW) and 336 Nm of torque integrated with dual-function X-Mode off-road controls. Software and charging thermal updates arrived in 2023-2024. Production continues in Japan. Designers placed a strong emphasis on cabin ergonomics, occupant visibility, and long-distance driving comfort. Robust mechanical reliability across the drivetrain and suspension components helped establish this generation as a benchmark choice within its competitive market segment worldwide.
