Unveiled at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, the inaugural Subaru Levorg (VM code) went on sale in 2014 as a dedicated sport wagon replacing the Legacy wagon in key markets. Its name is an acronym for LEgacy, EVOlution, TouRinG. Sharing chassis architecture with the fourth-generation Impreza/WRX, it featured direct-injected turbocharged flat-four engines: the 1.6-liter FB16DIT (170 hp) and the high-output 2.0-liter FA20DIT (300 hp in Japan). The engineering setup effectively combined the low center of gravity inherent to the horizontally-opposed engine layout with a rigid chassis frame, delivering precise handling and composure across dry pavement and slippery surfaces alike. Engine bay packaging ensured optimal front-to-rear axle weight distribution alongside efficient thermal cooling under sustained driving loads.

All models featured Lineartronic CVTs and Symmetrical AWD. A 2017 facelift refreshed front-end aesthetics, enhanced acoustic insulation, and added third-generation EyeSight capabilities. A factory STI Sport trim added Bilstein adaptive dampening. Production ran through 2020. Designers placed a strong emphasis on cabin ergonomics, occupant visibility, and long-distance driving comfort. Robust mechanical reliability across the drivetrain and suspension components helped establish this generation as a benchmark choice within its competitive market segment worldwide.
