Subaru Ascent I (WM) gallery (2018–present)

Unveiled at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, the inaugural generation of the Subaru Ascent (WM code) launched in 2018 as the brand's largest vehicle to date. Constructed on an elongated version of the Subaru Global Platform (SGP), it accommodates 7 or 8 passengers across three seating rows. Motivation comes from a 2.4-liter FA24F direct-injected turbocharged flat-four engine producing 260 hp and 376 Nm of torque. The engineering setup effectively combined the low center of gravity inherent to the horizontally-opposed engine layout with a rigid chassis frame, delivering precise handling and composure across dry pavement and slippery surfaces alike. Engine bay packaging ensured optimal front-to-rear axle weight distribution alongside efficient thermal cooling under sustained driving loads.

The engine is paired with a heavy-duty Lineartronic CVT and Symmetrical AWD featuring X-Mode, enabling a towing capacity of up to 5,000 lbs (2,268 kg). A 2022 facelift restyled the front lighting, added an 11.6-inch portrait touchscreen, and integrated enhanced EyeSight safety cameras. Production continues at the Indiana assembly facility. Designers placed a strong emphasis on cabin ergonomics, occupant visibility, and long-distance driving comfort. Robust mechanical reliability across the drivetrain and suspension components helped establish this generation as a benchmark choice within its competitive market segment worldwide.
