SsangYong Chairman I (w100) gallery (1997–2014)
The first generation of the SsangYong Chairman luxury sedan, based on the Mercedes-Benz W124 platform, was produced from 1997 to 2014.
The first generation of the flagship SsangYong Chairman sedan debuted in 1997 and was built on a licensed Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W124) platform, featuring styling reminiscent of the larger S-Class (W140). The vehicle was offered exclusively as a rear-wheel-drive sedan with powerful Mercedes-Benz inline-gasoline engines ranging from 2.3 to 3.6 liters paired with automatic transmissions. Throughout its lifecycle, the model underwent significant facelifts in 2003 and 2011, which refreshed the exterior lighting, grille, and luxury interior amenities. The primary market was South Korea, where it served as a premier vehicle for business executives and government officials. Following the introduction of the newer Chairman W in 2008, the original model was officially renamed Chairman H and stayed in production until it was discontinued in late 2014.
