The second-generation flagship SsangYong Chairman W was produced from 2008 to 2017, offering advanced technologies including all-wheel drive and V8 engines.
The second-generation SsangYong Chairman W debuted in 2008 as a completely new luxury flagship inspired by the SsangYong WZ concept car. Available as a standard and extended-wheelbase sedan (limousine), it utilized an advanced rear- and all-wheel-drive platform with longitudinal engine placement. The powertrain lineup featured smooth inline-six engines as well as a powerful 5.0-liter V8 petrol engine paired with multi-speed automatic transmissions. A major technical milestone for this generation was the introduction of the 4-AWD Tronic permanent all-wheel-drive system derived from Mercedes-Benz technology. In 2011, the vehicle received a comprehensive facelift that updated the front grille, headlights, bumpers, and interior technology suite. The primary market remained South Korea, catering to high-ranking executives and government officials. Production of the Chairman W officially ended in November 2017 as SsangYong shifted its long-term strategy entirely toward SUVs and crossovers.
