Scion iQ I (AJ10) photos

The Scion iQ was launched in the North American market in late 2011 for the 2012 model year as a rebadged and localized version of the Toyota iQ microcar. Built on a specialized front-engine, front-wheel-drive subcompact platform, the iQ featured an innovative 3+1 seating arrangement made possible by an asymmetric dashboard design that allowed the front passenger seat to slide further forward than the driver seat. Under the hood, the standard North American Scion iQ was powered by a 1.33-liter 1NR-FE inline-four gasoline engine producing 94 horsepower, paired exclusively with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). A limited-production all-electric variant, the Scion iQ EV, was also produced for testing and fleet programs featuring a 47 kW electric motor and a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Safety was a major engineering focus, equipping the tiny three-door hatchback with 11 standard airbags, including the world's first rear-window curtain shield airbag. The Scion iQ remained on sale through 2015 until it was discontinued due to low demand in the North American microcar segment.
