Scion FR-S I (ZN6) photos

The Scion FR-S was introduced in 2012 as a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive 2+2 sports coupe designed to revive Toyota's heritage of lightweight and affordable driver's cars. Developed jointly by Toyota and Subaru on the bespoke ZN6 chassis architecture, it was mechanically identical to the global Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ. Under the hood sat a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated boxer four-cylinder engine (Subaru FA20) incorporating Toyota's innovative D-4S direct and port injection system, producing 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. Transmission choices included a crisp 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters, sending power to the rear wheels via a standard Torsen limited-slip differential. The car earned universal praise for its exceptionally low center of gravity, sharp steering response, and communicative chassis dynamics. When the Scion division was dissolved in 2016, the coupe transitioned directly into the Toyota lineup as the Toyota 86.
