7About this generation
First generation of the mid-engine Saleen S1 coupe, offered in Street and Race variants.
The first-generation Saleen S1 is a mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe built around an extruded aluminum structure clothed in lightweight carbon-fiber bodywork. The vehicle features a quoted curb weight of 2,685 pounds (approximately 1,218 kg). The road-going S1 Street variant utilizes a mid-mounted turbocharged gasoline engine rated at 450 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque, enabling a zero-to-60 mph sprint in 3.2 seconds and an official top speed of 171 mph.
The generation also includes a track-only sibling designated the S1 Race, which lowers the 0-60 mph acceleration time to 2.9 seconds and pushes maximum velocity to 180 mph via dedicated aerodynamic elements, chassis tuning, and track setups. Compared to earlier proprietary projects from the marque such as the massive V8-powered S7, the first-generation S1 shifts focus toward lightweight agility, forced induction, and compact proportions. Production is handled at the company's manufacturing facility in Corona, California.
