Pontiac Vibe II gallery (2008–2009)

The second-generation Pontiac Vibe was introduced in early 2008 for the 2009 model year, continuing the platform-sharing collaboration with Toyota alongside the second-generation Matrix on the updated E140 platform. The new model featured a sleeker, more aggressive body profile with muscular fender flares and a revised roofline compared to its predecessor. The engine lineup was entirely revamped: the entry-level model received Toyota's 1.8-liter 2ZR-FE inline-four engine producing 132 hp, while the AWD and GT performance trims were equipped with a larger 2.4-liter 2AZ-FE inline-four generating 158 hp. Drivetrain options comprised five-speed manual gearboxes, a four-speed automatic for the 1.8L and AWD models, and a five-speed automatic with sequential sport shifting on front-wheel-drive 2.4L models. Standard equipment across all trims included StabiliTrak stability control, anti-lock disc brakes, and full-length side curtain airbags. Sold exclusively in North America, production of the second-generation Vibe ended abruptly in August 2009 due to the closure of the NUMMI manufacturing facility and General Motors' restructuring strategy.
