The Pontiac Torrent mid-size crossover debuted in 2005 as a replacement for the Aztek and a close relative of the Chevrolet Equinox. Built on the GM Theta platform, it was offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations. Early models featured a 3.4-liter V6 engine producing 185 hp paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission. The suspension and steering were retuned by Pontiac engineers to provide a sportier driving dynamic compared to its Chevrolet counterpart. In 2008, a performance-oriented GXP trim was introduced, featuring a larger 3.6-liter V6 engine outputting 264 hp, a 6-speed automatic transmission, aggressive body styling, and enhanced interior features. Production ended in 2009 following General Motors' decision to phase out the Pontiac brand. The vehicle was primarily marketed in North America, where it gained popularity for its utility and affordable pricing.
