Pontiac Fiero I (P-body) gallery (1983–1988)
Pontiac Fiero is the first mass-produced American mid-engine sports car featuring composite body panels.
Pontiac Fiero is based on the rear-wheel drive GM P platform utilizing a steel space frame with bolt-on polymer exterior panels. The vehicle was equipped with 2.5-liter four-cylinder Iron Duke engines and 2.8-liter V6 powerplants mated to 4- and 5-speed manual transmissions as well as 3-speed automatic gearboxes. Throughout its production run, the model underwent several updates, including the introduction of the performance-oriented GT fastback version in 1985 and a major suspension and brake overhaul in 1988 that significantly improved handling. Primarily marketed in North America, it achieved strong commercial success as an affordable sports car and a popular donor vehicle for exotic car replicas.
