The Mitsubishi Grandis (NA0W platform code) debuted in May 2003 as the successor to the Chariot Grandis. Styled under design chief Olivier Boulay, it featured a futuristic MPV body profile with distinctive arrow-shaped lighting units. The interior accommodated six or seven passengers with the 'Hide & Seat' third-row folding mechanism. Engineering of the Grandis I (NA0W) (factory code NA0W) emphasized high structural rigidity, aerodynamic efficiency, and optimized interior spatial packaging. Built with reinforced body structures utilizing high-tensile steel alloys, the platform delivered reduced curb weight alongside improved occupant crash protection. The vehicle was distributed globally in multiple configuration packages designed to satisfy diverse market demands and regional regulatory specifications.

Engine choices included a 2.4-liter 4G69 MIVEC four-cylinder petrol unit (165 hp) and a 2.0-liter DI-D turbodiesel engine sourced from Volkswagen (136 hp). Transmissions comprised 5/6-speed manual gearboxes and 4-speed INVECS-II automatics. Global production ended in 2011. The powertrain lineup incorporated efficient engine families paired with robust manual, automatic, or continuously variable transmissions depending on trim selection. Drivetrain engineering integrated advanced suspension tuning and traction management systems.
