The Mitsubishi Carisma (DA0 platform designation) was manufactured from 1995 to 2006 at the NedCar joint venture facility in Born, Netherlands. Co-developed on a shared platform with the Volvo S40/V40, it was engineered tailored for European consumer preferences in 4-door sedan and 5-door hatchback body styles. Engineering of the Carisma I (DA0) (factory code DA0) emphasized high structural rigidity, aerodynamic efficiency, and optimized interior spatial packaging. Built with reinforced body structures utilizing high-tensile steel alloys, the platform delivered reduced curb weight alongside improved occupant crash protection. The vehicle was distributed globally in multiple configuration packages designed to satisfy diverse market demands and regional regulatory specifications.
Engines comprised 1.6-liter (4G92) and 1.8-liter (4G93) petrol engines, pioneering the 1.8 GDI direct-injection engine (125 hp), alongside 1.9-liter Renault-sourced turbodiesels.
