The second generation MG5 transitioned into a stylish fastback sedan adopting MG's third-generation design language.
Introduced at the 2020 Beijing Auto Show, the second-generation MG5 shifted from a hatchback silhouette to a sleek four-door compact fastback sedan. Designed under MG's updated aesthetic direction, it boasted an assertive front grille and narrow LED headlamps. Under the hood, buyers were offered a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine delivering 120 hp with a CVT or manual gearbox, alongside a 1.5-litre Mega Tech turbocharged four-cylinder delivering 173 hp connected to a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. Inside, the cabin showcased a modern layered dashboard with a 10.25-inch touchscreen running the Zebra Venus OS. In 2024, the sedan underwent a significant exterior refresh with sharper lighting signatures and redesigned fascia aligning it with the MG7. The model enjoys widespread distribution across international markets including Australia, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and South America.
