First generation of the iconic light commercial vehicle Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (W901–W905 series), produced from 1995 to 2006.
The first-generation Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (internal series W901, W902, W903, W904, and W905 categorized by gross vehicle weight) launched in 1995 to succeed the iconic Transporter T1. It revolutionized the commercial vehicle segment with sleek aerodynamic styling, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, and independent front suspension, earning the International Van of the Year award in 1995.
The Sprinter offered unmatched versatility across panel van, passenger minibus, and single/double-cab chassis pickup body styles. Engine choices ranged from naturally aspirated 2.3-liter and 2.9-liter turbodiesels to OM611/OM647 common-rail CDI turbodiesels (2.1L and 2.7L) introduced during the major 2000 facelift, along with 2.3-liter gasoline units. Production in Europe ran through 2006.
