Focused on efficiency and interior refinement, it cut fuel consumption by an average of 25% through optimized aerodynamics and upgraded electric power steering. Styling updates brought a more commanding front grille and sleek horizontal LED taillights.

Powertrains included a 2.1-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel (ML 250 CDI), a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel (ML 350 BlueTEC), and direct-injected V6/V8 gasoline engines (ML 350, ML 400, ML 500). The ML 63 AMG housed a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 generating up to 557 hp. Innovative chassis options introduced the ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM active roll stabilization.
