The second-generation Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class (chassis code V167 for SUV, C167 for Coupe) was launched at the 2018 Paris Motor Show on the Modular High Architecture (MHA). Extending the wheelbase by 80 mm allowed for an optional third-row seat configuration for the first time. Key innovations included the 48-volt E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL fully active hydro-pneumatic suspension capable of controlling spring and damper forces individually at each wheel.

Engine choices comprise 2.0-liter inline-four diesels (GLE 300 d), 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six gasoline and diesel engines featuring EQ Boost 48V electrification (GLE 450, GLE 400 d, GLE 53 AMG), and a 612-hp 4.0L twin-turbo V8 in the AMG GLE 63 S. Advanced plug-in hybrids like the diesel-electric GLE 350 de offer substantial zero-emission range. A 2023 mid-cycle update updated headlights, steering wheel controls, and MBUX software.
