The first-generation Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class (chassis code X253) was introduced in June 2015 to replace the GLK-Class as part of Mercedes' revamped model nomenclature. Constructed on the lightweight MRA modular rear-wheel-drive architecture shared with the W205 C-Class, it moved away from the angular boxiness of its predecessor toward sleek aerodynamic styling. In 2016, the GLC Coupe (C253) joined the lineup with a sloping fastback roofline.

Powertrains comprised turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, alongside plug-in hybrid models like the GLC 300 e and GLC 300 de. Standard equipment included the 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic and 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive. High-performance AMG derivatives featured twin-turbo V6 (GLC 43) and twin-turbo V8 (GLC 63 / 63 S with up to 510 hp) engines. A 2019 facelift introduced MBUX voice control and new electrified engines.
