The second-generation Mercedes-Benz CLA (index C118 for the coupe-sedan and X118 for the Shooting Brake) debuted in January 2019 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Built on the revised MFA2 platform, it gained a wider track and a longer wheelbase for improved interior roominess and stability. The exterior styling followed Mercedes' Sensual Purity design language with sharp LED headlights and a aggressive front grille. Inside, it introduced a widescreen cockpit dominated by the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) system with intelligent voice control and augmented reality navigation.

The engine lineup features 1.33-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engines along with 2.0-liter OM654 turbodiesel units. In 2020, Mercedes introduced the CLA 250 e plug-in hybrid producing 218 hp and offering an electric-only range of up to 69 km. Transmissions include 7-speed and 8-speed dual-clutch automatics, paired with front-wheel drive or 4MATIC all-wheel drive. A 2023 facelift updated front LED lighting signatures, standardized 48V mild-hybrid assistance across gasoline engines, and upgraded onboard software. Performance AMG variants include the 306 hp CLA 35 and the top-tier 421 hp CLA 45 S.
