The third-generation Mercedes-Benz A-Class (W176) debuted at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, representing a radical paradigm shift that transformed the model from a tall monovolume into a low-slung, premium five-door hatchback aimed squarely at golf-class competitors. Built on the front-wheel-drive Modular Front Architecture (MFA) platform, the W176 featured MacPherson strut front suspension and an independent multi-link rear axle. The aerodynamic body boasted a drag coefficient of 0.27, while the cabin introduced turbine-style air vents, integrated headrest sports seats, and the COMAND infotainment interface.

Powertrains included M270 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engines alongside OM607 (1.5-liter), OM651 (1.8-liter and 2.1-liter) diesel units.
