The Mercedes-Maybach GLS, designated X167 and sold predominantly as the GLS 600 4MATIC, was unveiled in late 2019 as the brand's inaugural full-size luxury SUV. Engineered on the Mercedes-Benz MHA (Modular High Architecture) platform, the vehicle eliminates the conventional third-row seating of the standard GLS, relocating the rear seats 120 millimeters further aft to provide opulent legroom. Available with either a four-seat or five-seat configuration, the rear lounge features executive reclining seats with continuous center console tables, temperature-controlled cup holders, and individual multimedia displays. Visually, the model stands out with a chrome waterfall grille, bespoke 22- or 23-inch forged wheels, signature two-tone coachwork, and automatically deploying illuminated aluminum running boards. Propulsion comes from an AMG-derived 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 558 metric horsepower, supported by a 48-volt EQ Boost mild-hybrid system and mated to a 9G-Tronic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Ride quality is optimized by the fully active E-Active Body Control suspension featuring a dedicated Maybach drive mode that minimizes vehicle pitch and body roll. A cosmetic and technical facelift in 2023 refreshed the front fascia, taillights, and MBUX digital interfaces. Primary markets include China, the United States, the Middle East, and Europe.
