The Maserati Levante, carrying internal code M161, launched at the Geneva Motor Show as the trident marque's inaugural luxury performance crossover. Utilizing an evolution of the rear-wheel-drive platform underpinning the Ghibli and Quattroporte, the chassis featured a rigid steel-aluminum structure, a 50:50 weight distribution, and standard multi-level closed-circuit air suspension paired with Skyhook electronically controlled dampers. Engine options encompassed 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 petrol units producing 350 hp to 430 hp, alongside a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. The ultimate performance envelope was defined by the GTS and Trofeo variants, motivated by a Ferrari-built 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 generating up to 580 hp. A 48V mild-hybrid 2.0-liter four-cylinder arrived in 2021. Power was routed exclusively through an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox and the intelligent Q4 AWD system equipped with a mechanical limited-slip rear differential.
