Lotus Excel I (Type 89) gallery (1982–1992)
The Lotus Excel is a front-engined, four-seater sports coupe that replaced the Eclat.
Initially introduced as the Lotus Eclat Excel, it was later known simply as the Excel. Built on an upgraded Eclat chassis, it utilized several components from Toyota, including the transmission and suspension parts, as a result of a partnership between the two companies. Power came from a proprietary 2.2-liter 4-cylinder Lotus engine. Over its production life, the model saw several updates, including the Excel SE version with a more powerful engine and aerodynamic enhancements. Production ended in 1992 as a new generation of models was introduced.
