Lotus Europa S I (Type 121) gallery (2006–2010)
The Lotus Europa S was a mid-engine two-seater GT coupe designed to offer more comfort and usability than the track-focused Elise.
The Lotus Europa S (factory code Type 121) was introduced at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show. Built around an extruded bonded aluminum chassis derived from the Lotus Small Car Platform (shared with the Elise and Exige), the Europa S featured lower sill sides, a raised roofline, higher levels of sound deadening, and a larger trunk designed for grand touring usability. Power came from a mid-mounted 2.0-liter turbocharged General Motors Ecotec four-cylinder engine (Z20LER) producing 200 hp and 262 Nm of torque, paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission. In 2008, Lotus released the higher-performance Europa SE variant, boosting output to 225 hp and 300 Nm, along with larger AP Racing brakes and upgraded alloy wheels. The Europa S was primarily marketed in Europe and select Asian markets and was never federally certified for North America. Production ended in 2010 with a total run of only 547 units.
