The third-generation Lexus IS sedan (chassis code XE30) premiered at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2013. Incorporating aggressive exterior styling, it introduced a prominent spindle grille, detached L-shaped daytime running lights, and a swept sill profile. Wheelbase expanded by 2.7 inches, dramatically improving rear passenger room. The driver-focused cockpit borrowed heavily from the LFA supercar, featuring a motorized sliding digital gauge ring on F Sport models.
Powertrain choices included a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder on IS 200t/IS 300, a 3.5-liter V6 on IS 350 (offering up to 311 hp with RWD or AWD), and the IS 300h hybrid. In 2021, Lexus launched the IS 500 F Sport Performance featuring a 472-hp 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8. Major updates occurred in 2016 and a comprehensive 2020 overhaul that widened the track, added a full-width LED rear light bar, and upgraded chassis rigidity. A third facelift was announced in September 2025: for the 2026 model year the sedan received a redesigned front fascia, a rear deck spoiler, a restyled instrument panel with 12.3-inch displays and Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, while the US line-up narrowed to a single IS 350 with the 311-hp 3.5-liter V6 in rear- or all-wheel drive.
