The first generation of the Isuzu Rodeo mid-size SUV debuted in North America in 1991 and was built on the Isuzu Faster pickup truck platform. The vehicle was offered as a five-door SUV, alongside a three-door variant known as the Amigo in the United States. The base powerplant was a 2.6-liter 4-cylinder engine producing 120 horsepower, with an optional V6 engine available for higher trim levels. Transmission choices included manual and automatic gearboxes paired with a part-time four-wheel-drive system. During its lifecycle, the vehicle received a minor facelift in 1995, introducing standard front airbags and interior refinements. The primary target market was North America, where the vehicle achieved considerable popularity due to its rugged capability and competitive pricing.
