The first-generation Isuzu Hombre is a compact pickup truck based on the Chevrolet S-10 platform through General Motors cooperation.
The Isuzu Hombre debuted in 1995 and was produced until 2000 in the United States primarily for the North American market. It shared its platform and major mechanical components with the Chevrolet S-10 but featured a distinctive front fascia, grille, and bumper design. The truck was available in Standard Cab and Spacecab configurations with rear-wheel drive or optional four-wheel drive. The engine lineup included reliable gasoline powerplants: a base 2.2-liter inline-four engine producing 118 to 122 horsepower and a more powerful 4.3-liter V6 engine generating up to 180 horsepower. Transmission choices included a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox. Marketed as an affordable utilitarian vehicle, the Hombre suffered from low sales due to fierce competition in the compact truck segment, leading to its discontinuation in 2000 without a direct successor until the later introduction of the Isuzu i-Series trucks.
