The Hyundai Genesis Coupe (BK chassis) debuted at the New York International Auto Show in March 2008 as Hyundai's first rear-wheel-drive sports coupe. Built on a shortened chassis derived from the Genesis BH sedan, it featured aggressive styling cues, a signature drop-beltline side window design, and a Torsen limited-slip differential on performance trims.

Powertrains included a 2.0-liter turbocharged Theta four-cylinder (210-275 hp) and a 3.8-liter Lambda RS DOHC V6 (306-353 hp). Transmissions comprised 6-speed manuals, 5/6-speed ZF automatics, and Hyundai's 8-speed automatic. A 2012 facelift introduced an aggressive hexagonal front fascia, redesigned headlamps, and increased engine horsepower ratings.
