The second-generation Holden Colorado (RG series) launched in 2012, based on General Motors' global mid-size truck platform GMT 31XX developed primarily by GM do Brasil. Manufactured in Thailand, the RG generation featured substantially increased dimensions, modern safety features, and robust towing capability rated up to 3,500 kg. Available in Single, Space, and Crew Cab formats, the truck dropped petrol engines entirely in favour of GM's VM Motori-developed Duramax turbo-diesels: an entry 2.5-litre and a heavy-duty 2.8-litre delivering 147 kW and up to 500 Nm of torque. Drivetrain options included 5- and 6-speed manual transmissions alongside a 6-speed automatic with part-time 4WD. In 2016, Holden rolled out a major mid-cycle refresh with redesigned front styling, an all-new dashboard with MyLink infotainment, and a comprehensive local suspension and steering recalibration by Holden engineers. High-spec off-road variants including the Z71 and the HSV-tuned SportsCat capped off production until General Motors retired the Holden brand in 2020.
