About this generation

The second generation Holden Apollo, built upon the wide-body Toyota Camry XV10 platform offering increased space and comfort.

Launched in 1993, the second-generation Holden Apollo (designated JM series) was based on the internationally acclaimed wide-body Toyota Camry XV10 architecture. This generation marked a dramatic step forward in refinement, safety, structural rigidity, and interior volume compared to the original model. The styling adopted sweeping aerodynamic lines available in four-door sedan and five-door station wagon configurations. Under the bonnet, standard variants received a larger 2.2-litre dual-overhead-cam four-cylinder engine producing 93 kW, while performance-oriented trims offered a silky smooth 3.0-litre quad-cam V6 generating 136 kW. Power was routed to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox or an adaptive four-speed automatic transmission. In 1995, the lineup transitioned to the JP update, bringing subtle cosmetic enhancements, modernized front styling, and expanded standard safety features, including available driver airbags and anti-lock brakes. The JM/JP Apollo was sold in the Australasian market until 1997, when the badge-sharing partnership between GM Holden and Toyota was officially dissolved, allowing Holden to replace the model with the European-sourced Holden Vectra.
