The first generation Haval H4 compact crossover SUV debuted at the 2017 Guangzhou Auto Show and was manufactured until 2020. Based on a front-wheel-drive unibody platform, the vehicle features a 2,660 mm wheelbase and was designed to bridge the gap between the smaller Haval H2 and the bestselling Haval H6. Haval offered the crossover in two distinct cosmetic executions: the conservative Red Label and the sportier Blue Label trim. Engine choices comprised two turbocharged four-cylinder petrol units, including a 1.3-liter GW4B13 engine producing 139 horsepower and a 1.5-liter GW4B15 engine yielding 169 horsepower. Transmission options paired these powerplants with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission sending power to the front wheels. Interior amenities encompassed a 12-inch infotainment screen, a fully digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera system, lane departure warnings, and blind-spot monitoring. The Haval H4 was marketed predominantly in China before being replaced by the Haval Jolion.
