Great Wall Safe I gallery (2002–2009)

The Great Wall Safe was produced from 2002 to 2009 and served as a foundational model for the manufacturer's global expansion. Structurally based on the second-generation Toyota 4Runner N130 platform, the Safe features a durable steel ladder frame combined with a torsion-bar independent front suspension and a live rear axle supported by coil springs. Under the bonnet, the vehicle was equipped with a 2.2-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine producing 105 horsepower, developed from the Toyota 4Y engine family. Engine power is directed through a five-speed manual transmission coupled with a dual-range transfer case for part-time four-wheel drive. Rear-wheel-drive configurations were also produced for urban buyers. The cabin layout emphasized utility, offering standard features such as air conditioning, power steering, electric windows, and basic audio equipment. Assembly took place in China as well as via knock-down kits in Gzhel, Russia. Known for its high ground clearance and mechanical simplicity, the Safe established Great Wall's reputation for dependable off-road vehicles across developing markets.
