Launched in 2011, the first generation Haval H6 compact crossover became a massive commercial success for Great Wall Motors with its unibody architecture and efficient turbocharged powertrains.
Unveiled in August 2011 as the Great Wall Hover H6, the first generation Haval H6 was produced until 2020 and established the model as China's best-selling crossover. Built on a refined unibody chassis, it features an independent front MacPherson strut layout and a multi-link rear suspension. The 5-door crossover body boasted exceptional interior space and a cargo capacity expanding from 808 to 2010 liters with the rear seats folded. The engine lineup consisted of a 1.5-liter turbocharged GW4G15B inline-four delivering 143 to 150 horsepower, a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter Mitsubishi 4G69 engine rated at 163 horsepower, and a 2.0-liter GW4D20 turbo-diesel engine generating 140 to 150 horsepower. Transmissions included 5-speed or 6-speed manual gearboxes alongside an optional 6-speed automatic supplied by Hyundai. Drivetrain options encompassed standard front-wheel drive and an optional torque-on-demand all-wheel-drive system with an electromagnetic coupling. The spacious interior came equipped with a touch-screen infotainment console, dual-zone climate control, power sunroof, leather upholstery, keyless entry with push-button start, and a rearview camera. Safety systems integrated dual front airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags, and Electronic Stability Control. The model was produced in China and Bulgaria while being exported to Australia, South America, and Eastern Europe.
