Unveiled in late 2012 for the 2014 model year, the fourth-generation GMC Sierra was built on the K2XX platform, incorporating extensive use of high-strength roll-formed steel in the frame and cab architecture alongside an aluminum hood to reduce curb weight. The previous Extended Cab was replaced by a newly engineered Double Cab featuring standard forward-hinged rear doors, complementing the classic Regular Cab and Crew Cab body styles. The powertrain lineup introduced the advanced EcoTec3 engine family featuring direct fuel injection, continuously variable valve timing, and Active Fuel Management: a 4.3-liter V6, a 5.3-liter V8, and a flagship 6.2-liter V8 delivering 420 horsepower. Transmission options expanded to include Hydra-Matic six-speed and eight-speed automatic units. Heavy-duty 2500HD and 3500HD variants retained robust chassis frames and introduced the redesigned 6.6-liter Duramax L5P turbo-diesel engine generating 445 horsepower. A mid-cycle refresh in 2016 brought signature C-shaped LED lighting, refreshed grille designs, magnetic ride control on Denali models, and an eAssist mild-hybrid option. It was primarily marketed in North America and Middle Eastern regions.
