The first-generation Ford Territory (platform code EA169, with body codes SX, SY, and SZ) was manufactured by Ford Australia from 2004 to 2016 at the Campbellfield assembly plant. Built on the rear-wheel-drive Ford Falcon platform, it was the only SUV entirely designed, engineered, and produced in Australia. The vehicle was offered in five-seater and seven-seater seating configurations, earning widespread acclaim for its car-like handling, practical interior ergonomics, and high safety standards. Throughout its 12-year lifespan, the crossover underwent two major updates: the original SX series (2004–2005) was followed by the SY series (2005–2011), which introduced a 6-speed ZF automatic transmission and turbocharged performance variants, and later the SZ series (2011–2016) incorporating Ford's Kinetic Design styling language.

Under the hood, the Australian Territory was powered by a 4.0-liter Barra inline-six gasoline engine (producing 245 hp naturally aspirated or up to 335 hp in turbocharged trim) or a 2.7-liter Duratorq V6 turbodiesel (190 hp) introduced with the SZ facelift. Buyers could select between rear-wheel drive and full-time all-wheel drive layouts. Produced exclusively as a five-door SUV, key trim levels included TX, TS, Ghia, and Titanium. Production concluded in October 2016 alongside the shutdown of Ford's Australian manufacturing operations.
