The full-size Ford Flex crossover (platform code D4) was manufactured at the Oakville Assembly plant in Ontario, Canada, from 2008 to 2019 (2009–2019 model years). Built on the flexible Ford D4 platform shared with the Ford Explorer and Lincoln MKT, it replaced the Freestar minivan and Taurus X crossover in Ford's North American lineup. The vehicle stood out with its bold boxy silhouette, horizontal door grooves, optional contrasting roof colors, and flat roofline. For the 2013 model year (introduced in 2012), the Flex received a major mid-cycle facelift featuring a sleek new front grille layout without the central Ford oval badge, a refined interior, and updated engine choices.

Engine options comprised a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter Duratec V6 producing 262 to 287 hp and a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 delivering 355 to 365 hp and 475 Nm of torque. Both engines were mated to a 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, with a choice between front-wheel drive and intelligent all-wheel drive. Available exclusively as a five-door SUV, the Flex offered upscale amenities such as a second-row refrigerator console, Sony premium audio, and a multi-panel Vista Roof. Production concluded in October 2019 after an 11-year run without a direct successor.
