About this generation

The first-generation Ford Edge introduced Ford to the mid-size five-passenger crossover utility segment.

Debuting for 2007 on the CD3 architecture co-developed with Mazda, the first-generation Edge (U387) featured a bold, rounded exterior with a distinctive three-bar chrome grille. The interior focused on spacious five-passenger seating and introduced the expansive panoramic Vista Roof option.

Power initially came from a smooth 3.5-liter Duratec V6 engine paired with a six-speed automatic. A 2011 mid-cycle refresh introduced a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine alongside a 3.7-liter V6 powering the performance Edge Sport trim. The lasting engineering impact of this generation remains a key benchmark in Ford's global model evolution history. Known for its dependable mechanical layout, the vehicle built a loyal customer base across diverse driving conditions. Offered with versatile feature packages, this iteration successfully balanced day-to-day usability with solid resale value. The lasting engineering impact of this generation remains a key benchmark in Ford's global model evolution history.
